Our future plans
We are currently leading a partnership of local authorities to deliver an improved public charging network in Edinburgh and across most of the South of Scotland, which will include significantly more electric vehicle charging points.
The South of Scotland local authorities involved are:
- City of Edinburgh
- Clackmannanshire
- Dumfries and Galloway
- Falkirk
- Fife
- Midlothian
- Scottish Borders
- West Lothian
To inform future charging points across the South of Scotland, a regional strategy has been produced. The strategy supports Scotland’s national goals for net zero transport, including ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. The strategy also helps to respond to growing electric vehicle use, ageing infrastructure and reduced government funding.
You can read the South of Scotland EV Charging Strategy here.
Work will continue through 2026 to develop the partnership and secure a commercial delivery partner.
If you have any suggestions for future electric vehicle charging points in Edinburgh you can email electricvehicles@edinburgh.gov.uk with
- street name
- postcode
- contact name
- contact email address
- whether you have access to off-street parking.
This is not a guarantee that we will install an electric vehicle charging point in your street, however, this will inform our future charge point operator on where there is interest in new charge points.
